Competition Rules and Point System (Both Gi and NoGi)

Our unique tournament blends the techniques and excitement of Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and Wrestling in a way that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Here's everything you need to know about the rules and point system:

3 rounds of action: Both players will fight for 3 rounds. Each round is scored by points so there is no bias from judges. Under 14 years old will fight 3 rounds, 3 minutes each. Adults will fight 3 rounds, 5 minutes each.

Starting Position: Both players will begin standing and aim to take their opponent down to the mat. Points will be awarded based on the quality of each takedown.

Ground Position: Once a takedown is completed, competitors will seek to improve their positions and submit. Stalling will not be tolerated, and negative scores will be given for delaying the action. Regardless of rounds, if a player submits their opponent they win the match.

No Pulling Guard: Players are strictly prohibited from pulling guard. Sacrifice throws are allowed, but the referee will decide if it was an attempt to throw or pull guard.

No Stalling: Stalling will result in warnings and negative scores. Stay active to keep the matches exciting.

No Illegal Throws: Players must execute takedowns safely. Intentional throws that endanger an opponent's head will lead to immediate disqualification.

Delay in Action: Anytime the groundwork looses intensity both players will be returned to their feet. Groundwork will not be interrupted if players are staying active. A warning will be given to increase action before players are stopped and returned to standing position.

No Slamming: When on the ground a player may not lift and slam the opponent to pass guard or escape a position.

Illegal Grips: Players in the Gi are not allowed to reach within their opponents sleeve or pants for a grip. This is dangerous and causes unintentional injuries.

No Metallic Braces: All braces are allowed as long as they do not contain metallic or stiff objects within the design. This can cause an injury unintentionally.

Point System:

- 5 points for IPPON: Awarded when a takedown results in one player being thrown to their back. (examples: large hip tosses, foot sweeps, double legs that result in air time, etc.)

- 2 points for Waza-ari: Given when a takedown occurs but the player isn't thrown to their back. (low amplitude double legs, ankle picks, etc.)

- 2 points for Sweep/Reversal: Awarded when a player transitions from the bottom to the top position.

- 3 points for Guard Pass: Given when a player effectively passes their opponent's guard/legs.

- -1 points for Stalling: Deducted when a player attempts to delay the action, at the referee's discretion.

- 4 points for controlling the pace of the round and staying offensive. This is awarded at the end of each round by the Judges.
